What are guaranteed hours?

Your assignment contains a set amount of contracted hours (also known as “guaranteed hours”) available for you to work each week. These are hours that both you and the facility agree that you will work over the course of your assignment. Guaranteed hours are described in full detail in our Handbook.


What's a cancellation policy? I thought my hours were guaranteed?

Contracts may have a facility “call-off policy,” which always supersedes Trusted's otherwise guaranteed hours. These may also be called "cancellation" policies. A cancellation policy allows the facility to call off a certain number of shifts during your assignment without obligation to pay you for those hours. It is common to see a 3 or 6 shift call-off allowance (sometimes structured as once every two to three weeks) for a 13-week assignment.

Each time you are called off, your called off hours will stack until they reach the equivalent number of shifts as your cancellation policy states. After the facility has used up all their allowable call-off shifts, if you are called off but were willing and able to work, you will then be paid for those hours.  

Keep in mind that the existence of a call-off policy does not necessarily mean the facility will call you off that many times throughout your contract. It simply means it would be an option for the facility in the event that they are overstaffed.


Where can I find my facility's call-off policy?

This can be found on your signed contract with Trusted. On your assignment confirmation agreement, you can locate the facility's call-off policy.

  • If it lists "n/a" - your hours are guaranteed and there is no call-off policy.

  • If it lists anything other than "n/a" - your facility has a call-off policy. That means the facility is allowed to call you off without obligation to pay under the terms detailed in your agreement.


I don't have guaranteed hours but I was called off by my facility, will I still receive my stipend?

When called off by the facility and guaranteed hours do not apply, you will still receive your stipend as long as you are willing and able to work.


What if I dropped a shift because we were overstaffed that day?

If you’re available and willing to report to work for a shift within your contracted hours, you should never--and we repeat, never!--volunteer to drop your shift. If you volunteer to drop your shift and don’t meet your weekly contracted hours, then you won’t be eligible for stipends for that shift.

However, volunteering to be called off is not the same as the facility canceling a shift. If you’re available and willing to work, but you’ve received confirmation that you’ve been canceled by your facility, you’ll still be eligible for that shift’s per diems!


When else do guaranteed hours not apply?

Guaranteed hours do not apply during the first and last week of an assignment, during any weeks containing orientation or a holiday, and days/weeks that have approved time off (including paid sick leave). Otherwise, guaranteed hours will be paid where they apply after the facility cancellation policy is met.


I am working on a local contract, do I still have guaranteed hours?

Since you’re on a local contract, two things to note are the lack of non-taxable stipends and that there are no guaranteed hours offered. In order to be able to offer local contracts at Trusted, we cannot offer guaranteed hours.


Will my hours still be guaranteed if I pick up an extra shift and then later in the week I am called off for a scheduled shift?

Per your contract you are guaranteed hours for your contracted hours, not anything above so if you were called off a shift but then picked up a different shift in the same week you are paid for your 36 hours not above.


Do my guaranteed hours apply to holiday weeks?

There are no guaranteed hours during any weeks containing a holiday, the first week of your contract, the last week of your contract, any weeks where you have requested or approved time off, or any week containing orientation. In all other instances, as long as you're willing and available to work your contracted hours and there is no facility "call-off" policy, your hours are guaranteed.
