As a travel nurse, we know medical deductibles can be confusing as you may work multiple assignments each year and have the option to enroll in different benefits plans on each assignment.

The good news is, as a Trusted nurse, your deductible ONLY resets at the end of the benefit year (December 31st each year) and any accumulation of dollars towards your deductible carries over from assignment to assignment within the same year, regardless of whether or not you choose the same benefit plan design from your previous assignment.

For example:

You work on an assignment from 01/05/2021 to 04/10/2021. While on that assignment you choose the Anthem PPO 500 medical plan and spend $800 towards medical costs:

  • Your next assignment begins 06/01/2021 and for that assignment you choose to enroll in the Anthem PPO 500 medical plan again. The $800 that you spent towards medical costs during your first assignment carry over and is applied to your deductible.

  • Your next assignment begins 06/01/2021 and for that assignment you choose to enroll in the Anthem PPO 2000 medical plan again. The $800 that you spent towards medical costs during your first assignment carry over and is applied to your deductible, even though you selected a different plan design.

  • Your next assignment begins 06/01/2021 but between assignments you enroll in COBRA and spend $100 towards medical care while on COBRA. For that assignment you choose to enroll in the Anthem PPO 500 medical plan again. The $800 that you spent towards medical costs during your first assignment and the $100 that you spent while on COBRA both carry over and are applied to your deductible.
